Mudcloth — Ségou, Mali

Handmade in Ségou, Mali, these mudcloths are woven from locally grown cotton and decorated using a traditional bogolan process. The cloth is first treated with tannin-rich plant dyes, then painted with fermented, iron-rich mud, which reacts with the fibre to produce the deep browns and blacks associated with Malian mudcloth. Can be used as throws, wall hangings, bed covers, table textiles or upholstery.
