Luba Headrest

Carved from dark wood, this Luba headrest combines function with the symbolic language that runs through Luba sculpture.

The curved upper rest supports the head during sleep and helps preserve elaborate hairstyles, while the human figures beneath belong to a wider Luba tradition in which the body can represent continuity, spiritual power and the structures that sustain social authority.
